FFA Public Speakers recently won many honors while competing at the Section 21 Public Speaking Contest at Kaskaskia College.

The contest has five categories which speakers can compete in: Varsity Prepared, JV Prepared, Varsity Extemporaneous, JV Extemporaneous, and FFA Creed Speaking. As the name implies, prepared speaking requires presenting a 6-8 minute speech from memory that was prepared before the contest.

The extemporaneous contest requires the participant to draw an agricultural topic and prepare a 3-5 minute speech in 20 minutes. In the Creed contest participants recite the FFA Creed from memory and answer questions about its meaning and purpose.

In Creed Speaking, Jade Bannert placed 3rd and Kourtney Barbee placed 5th. In JV Extemporaneous, Chloe Pelka placed 2nd. In JV Prepared, Aden Hill placed 1st. In Varsity Extemporaneous, Austin Schorfheide placed 1st. For Varsity Prepared, Callie McClay placed 3rd. In the Extemporaneous Invitational, Austin Schorfheide placed 1st and Cole Herrmann placed 3rd and received six credit hours for the Kaskaskia College Agriculture Department.

Austin, Chloe and Aden will now advance to the district contest on April 25th at SIU Carbondale.
