“Melting Rhino” By Harrison Briles

NCHS Student Gallery – May 9, 2018

This week’s piece for the NCHS Student Gallery is “Melting Rhino”, by sophomore Art II Student Harrison Briles.

The piece featured a sculptured bust in the form of a rhino, made using a papier-mâché technique (paper and paste) to construct the armature of the rhinoceros.

“My experience began with balled up newspaper, tape, and paste,” Briles wrote. “Then I added white newsprint overtop as a final layer. I used a heat gun to melt wax over top of my rhino.”
