Esther Hassebrock of Okawville, departed this life in the Washington County Hospital in Nashville, on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at 7:05 P.M. She had attained the age of 85 years, 5 months and 22 days.
Esther was born at home in rural Okawville on September 3, 1931, the daughter of August C. and Emilie (nee Hemminghaus) Hassebrock. She was baptized in the Olive Branch Lutheran Church near Okawville on September 20, 1931 and confirmed at Olive Branch on April 2, 1944.
Miss Hassebrock worked at Rehbein’s Grocery Store in Okawville and later worked at the Lanberg Hat Factory in Mascoutah, until her retirement. She was a faithful member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Okawville. Esther enjoyed taking care of her house plants, especially her African Violets, some of which she had for over 30 years.
Left to mourn her passing is a brother, Harvey Hassebrock of Okawville; a niece, ; a nephew; a great niece; a great-great niece; as well as neighbors and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Hassebrock and his wife Gladys; a sister, Norma Wernecke and her husband Norwin.
Services will be held from the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Okawville on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at 2 P.M. with Pastor Eric Wood officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call at the Immanuel Lutheran Church on Wednesday from 12 P.M. until 2 P.M.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, KFUO Radio or to Family Hospice and will be accepted by the Campagna Funeral Home.
