Mrs. Esther Thompson, 99, of Nashville, IL, departed this life at Washington County Hospital in Nashville, on Sunday, July 2, 2017 at 5:30 P.M.
Esther was born on May 27, 1918 in DuBois Illinois, the daughter of Herman and Martha Jahnke. Esther Thompson (Jahnke) was united in marriage to Ben Thompson in St. Louis Missouri, on June 3, 1939, Ben preceded her death in January 2, 1999.
Esther and Ben ran the Kiddie Shop in Nashville IL for over 30 years. She was also a home maker and foster parent for many foster children. She was a lifelong member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Nashville.
Left to mourn her passing is her daughter, Sandra Whitley and husband Joe of Simpsonville SC; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other related relatives and friends
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband a daughter Martha Nagel, a son Roger Thompson, several brothers and sisters.
Per the wishes of Esther and her family, Esther will be placed in an entombment next to her husband Ben Thompson at Memorial Mausoleum of Calvary Cemetery in Centralia, IL. There was no public visitation.
Should friends desire, mass offerings or memorial contributions may be made to St. Ann Catholic Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice and will be received at Campagna Funeral Home, Nashville, who is assisting the family with arrangements.
