Leo M. Banach, 82, of Scheller, passed away at 2:32 P.M., Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at his residence.
Leo had been an equipment operator for the coal mines. He was also a farmer for many years. Leo was a member of the St. Charles Catholic Church in Du Bois. He was a United States Army veteran and served from 1957 until 1959. Leo was a member of the Knights of Columbus in DuBois, Waltonville V.F.W., UMW of A, and the Illinois Hot Farm Stock Pullers Association.
He was born July 18, 1935 at Perry County, the son of Michael and Leona (Kabat) Banach.
He married Doris Ann Armbruster on October 16, 1961 at Smithton, and she survives.
He is survived by his wife of Scheller, three sons – Dennis Banach, Dale Banach and wife Neda and David Banach and wife Andrea, all of Scheller, four grandchildren – Adam, Dalton, Emma and Dillon Banach, all of Scheller, three sisters – Helen Knopik and husband Andy of East St. Louis, Virginia Winterbottom of Hazelwood, Mo., and Rose Krystopa and husband Joe of Granite City, sister-in-law – Emily Cortner of Smithton, numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law – Adam Armbruster, mother-in-law – Appolonia Armbruster, three brothers-in-law – Robert Winterbottom, Robert Armbruster, and Raymond Cortner, two nieces – Renea DePriest and Mary Jo Troske and one nephew – Curtis Winterbottom.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M., Monday, March 12, 2018 at the St. Charles Catholic Church in Du Bois with Fr. Oliver Nwachukwu and Fr. Andy Knopik officiating.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 P.M., Sunday at the church and from 9 A.M. until the time of service on Monday at the church.
Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Waltonville V.F.W. and the Army National Guard.
Burial will be in the St. Charles Cemetery at DuBois.
Friends may make memorials to the St. Charles Cemetery or the St. Charles Catholic Church Building Fund and will be accepted at the funeral home.
