Lloyd Earl Patton

Mr. Lloyd Earl Patton of Nashville, departed this life at the Washington County Hospital in Nashville on December 1, 2017 at 2:28 P.M.  He had attained the age of 95 years and 16 days.

Lloyd was born on November 15, 1922 at Oakdale, the son of Samuel David and Jennie Frances (Boyd) Patton. He was united in marriage to Margaret A. Auld on June 16, 1948 at the Reformed Presbyterian Church in Oakdale, and she preceded him in death on December 11, 2010.

Lloyd worked at the Nashville Building Loan from 1940-1943. He then served from 1943 to 1946 in the United States Air Force during World War II. He taught in the Biddleborn one room school for 5 years while attending Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Upon graduating from McKendree College he became Assistant Superintendent of Schools in Washington County from 1952-1964. He went on to become the Administrator of the Washington County Public Aid Department for 23 years, until his retirement in 1987.

Lloyd was an active member of the Reformed Presbyterian Church of Oakdale, teaching Sunday School, serving as a Deacon, and volunteering for various activities until the church closed in 2009. He then became an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Nashville. He was a longtime member of the Washington County Historical Society serving as treasurer for many years. Lloyd was a lifetime member of the Retired Teachers Association and the American Legion Post 110 of Nashville.

He enjoyed refinishing furniture, listening to music, attending local sporting events and was a loyal SIU Saluki fan. He also remained interested in local politics and community events. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and his great-grandchildren.

Left to mourn his passing is his son, Todd Patton of O’Fallon; his daughter, Emily Ibendahl and her husband Rodney of Nashville; two grandsons, Cullen Ibendahl of Nashville and Drew Ibendahl and his wife Erica of Olathe, Kan.; two great grandchildren, Lilly and Grady Ibendahl; his sister-in-law, Pearl Auld; his brother-in-law, Paul Auld and his wife Phyllis; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a granddaughter, Erin Ibendahl; brothers, Lawrence (Pat) Patton and wife Billie and Willis; sisters, Thalia May and husband Ted, Hazel Palek and husband Charles; brothers-in-law, William Auld and his wife Eileen and Charles Auld.

Funeral services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Nashville, on Monday, December 11, 2017 at 11 AM with Pastor Phil Carson officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery in Nashville. Military graveside rites will be accorded by the American Legion Post 110.

Friends may call at the Campagna Funeral Home in Nashville, on Sunday, December 10, 2017 from 4 PM until 7 PM and on Monday from 7:30 AM until 9 AM and then at the church from 10 AM until the service hour.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Nashville or the Washington County Retired Teachers Scholarship Fund and will be accepted by the Campagna Funeral Home.
