On July 1, Nashville Community High School’s new superintendent, Ernie Fowler, officially started in his position at the school. With the start of the school year coming up, Fowler approached the Nashville News and stated that in his past jobs, he had written a column for the local newspaper and offered to do the same in Nashville.

While Fowler’s column will probably appear on the school page or the opinion page in the future, his first column is an introduction of himself to Nashville and the surrounding communities.

“I want people to see me as approachable and friendly,” said Fowler. “I’m not fancy.”

Superintendent’s Notes

By Ernie Fowler – Nashville CHSD #99

As the readers probably already know, Mrs. Davis has retired as Superintendent of Nashville Community High School District #99. I thank her for 12 years of service to our school district and wish her well in her new life of freedom. I was hired by the Board of Education in December and officially took office on July 1.

First of all I would like to say that I am proud to be adopted into the Nashville Community and the high school.

I’ve spent the past seven years as Superintendent at Sangamon Valley C.U.S.D. #9 which is located between Decatur and Springfield. While I enjoyed by time in Central Illinois, I am a Southern Illinois boy at heart having been born in Eldorado and living the vast majority of my life in Harrisburg.

I was afraid that having spent seven years “up north” I might have lost what my friends in the Springfield/Decatur area called my “quaint southern accent”. Prior to leaving, however, they assured me that I was just as southern as the day I first came to Central Illinois.

I am finding that our high school has quality people serving the students in Nashville.

The teachers and support staff seem to be caring and dedicated to helping our young people be successful.

Nashville Community High School has a reputation for excellence both in the classroom and in extra curricular activities.

That reputation hasn’t happened by accident. It begins at home when parents have high expectations for their children in all areas of life. It then extends to the school where teachers push the kiddos to stretch themselves to achieve their maximum potential. Finally, the community of Nashville rewards our students by supporting our schools with a tremendous pride that is attached to the Hornet and Hornette name.

When I am in Harrisburg, I proudly wear the Nashville colors. What do you call a Bulldog? The answer….one who can only WISH they attended Nashville High School.

I look forward to being a small part of the great things that have happened, are happening, and will happen at NCHS.

Ernie Fowler took over as the new superintendent for Nashville Community High School District 99 on July 1.
