Nashville Wins Boys Golf Regional, Place 4th In Cardinal Creek Tournament

The Nashville High School boys golf team had a busy week, in which they competed in the Cardinal Creek Classic Golf Tournament held in Mascoutah on October 3, in their last regular season contest, before they competed in Regionals on Tuesday, October 6.

Nasvhille placed 4th out of 16 teams in the Cardinal Creek Classic Golf Tournament, with Tyler Wall finishing second overall in the tournament with a score of 72 on the day. Riley Edwards also placed high in the tournament, garnering 16th place with a score of 82. The other scorers for the Hornets were Briley Dahncke with an 89 and Tyler Williamson with a 92.

The Hornets then got their postseason underway as they competed in the Boys Golf Regional which was held in Pinckneyville at Red Hawk Country Club. Nashville came away with first place in the regional with a score of 327, defeating Chester by 9 strokes. Sparta finished third in the regional with a score of 339, to move on to sectionals. Senior Riley Edwards was the top overall finisher in the regional, with a score of 73. Edwards, was followed on the scoreboard by fellow senior Tyler Wall who shot a 76 on the day. Briley Dahncke was third on the team with a score of 86. The last scorer for the Hornets on the day was Hayden Heggemeier, who finished with a 92.

The Hornets then played in the sectional on October 12, which was held at Anna. The Hornets came away with 3rd place in the Sectional, allowing the team to advance to state.

The Hornets finished with a score of 336 and were led on the day by seniors Tyler Wall, who shot a 74, and Riley Edwards who shot a 78 on the day.

Two juniors rounded out the scoring for the Hornets as Briley Dahncke shot a 90, and Tyler Williamson shot a 94.

The Hornets finished behind Breese Mater Dei who finished with a score of 328 and McLeansboro Hamilton County, who finished with a score of 331.

The Hornets advanced by just one stroke, edging past Effingham. Teutopolis finished two strokes back of the Hornets.

The State Finals will be held on October 17, at Prairie Vista Golf Course in Bloomington.

The Hornets golf team stands around the regional championship plaque, on October 6. The Hornets finished first in the 13 team regional, winning by 9 strokes.
