Kozuszek Brings Prizes Home From Belleville Art Competition

    NCHS student Mikala Kozuszek was recognized for her artwork at the Art of the Square High School Competition in Belleville, held on May 19,20, and 21. Kozuszek is going to be a senior in the fall and has completed two years of art and plans to take a third year, now that the art program is expanding.

She entered a 18-by-24-inch graphite drawing. It features a large up close portrait of an older man sticking out his tongue. She titled it “Age is Just a Number.”  She received three different awards for this artwork, cash prizes, and a scholarship to Lindenwood University.

Her first award was the Lindenwood University Artist Choice award and $50.  This award was given to 10 artworks out of 257. She also won a scholarship with that award if she decides to attend college there. $500 first year and $2500 each year after that.

Her second award was the People’s Choice award for $50. This was given to 4 artworks out of 257 pieces and over 2,000 people voted. Everyone that attended the show could vote on their favorite artwork.

The third award was the Award of Excellence for $200 and 4 artworks out of 257 received this.
