The NCHS fall sports season wrapped up this past week at the IHSA Class 1A State Cross Country Meet, held at Detweiller Park in Peoria.
All of the runners battled tough conditions as rain made the course muddy and slick. The NCHS Girls Cross Country team, as well as Brandon Schnitker competed at the event.
The girls team brought home 19th place as a team, while Schnitker finished 19th overall in the boys race.
In the girls race, 208 runners competed in the race. The individual state champion was Emma Argo from Eureka. Tolono (Unity) won the team title with a score of 108. The Hornettes finished in 19th place as a team with 471 points. Other area teams were Freeburg in 11th place, Mater Dei in 17th place, DuQuoin in 23rd place, and Pinckneyville in 24th place.
Nashville was led by Grace Maschhoff who came across 101st overall with a time of 19:57. Jaylyn Bower was not far behind as Bower finished 106th overall with a time of 20:23. Brittnie Bartling was the next Nashville runner across the line with a time of 20:27, which made her the 127th runner across the line. Havalen Pierce crossed the line in 158th place with a time of 21:10, followed closely by Sabrina Kollbaum who finished in 160th place overall with a time of 21:14. Destyn Hauser-Mills finished 183rd overall with a time of 21:43, and Kiley Heidel finished in 191st place overall with a time of 22:02.
Team-wise the Hornettes score was figured by adding up the total finish of the Nashville runners.
The place that counted for the team score was where each runner that was a part of a team crossed the line. Maschhoff scored 66th, Bower scored 71st, Bartling scored 90th, Pierce scored 121st, and Kollbaum scored 123rd. Those scores added up to the Nashville team score of 471.
Okawville’s Madelyn Tepe finished 69th overall with a time of 19:16 as the only Okawville runner that advanced to the State Meet.
On the boys side, Schnitker was the only runner to advance for the Nashville Hornets.
Schnitker finished up his cross country career with a 19th place finish. Schnitker finished with a time of 15:23 which was one second better than his 14th place finish last year at the state meet.
