The Nashville Middle School Jr. Hornettes girls basketball team suffered a rare loss this past week as they fell to DuQuoin on December 7. A back and forth game throughout, the Jr. Hornettes could not hold off a furious fourth quarter rally from DuQuoin, and DuQuoin handed Nashville their fourth loss of the season 40-31.
Nashville held the early lead, as the Jr. Hornettes went into the second quarter with a 6-4 lead. DuQuoin came back to outscore Nashville 11-8 in the second to hold a 15-14 lead at the break. After halftime, the Jr. Hornettes gained a little breathing room as they outscored DuQuoin 12-6 in the third and held a 26-21 lead with just one quarter to play. In the fourth, DuQuoin came alive. DuQuoin outscored Nashville 19-5 in the final quarter of play to take a 40-31 comeback win.
The Jr. Hornettes were led by Alyssa Cole with 13 points in the win. Daci Finke added six points, followed by Jordan Donato with five points. Daphne Kollbaum scored three points in the loss, while Annie Ahlers and Baylie Newman scored two points apiece for Nashville.
The Jr. Hornettes record is 12-4 on the season.
